Nitro RC machinery After run oil maintenance. Just like any machinery, auto's they require regular maintenance. After running your RC you have to perform after-run maintenance. Part of the after-run maintenance includes lubricating the pistons and all the internal parts. Nitro fuel contains alcohol which, after a good run, tends to dry out internal parts within the RC engine. After burn oil is the lubricant used to counteract this drying out. To start the after-run maintenance you will need:
- paper towels or shop towels
- needle nose pliers
- glow plug wrench
- after burn oil / after run oil
If your nitro RC is equipped with an electric start system begin by taking the glow plug wire off the glow plug with a pair of needle nose pliers. If your nitro RC is not equipped with an electric start system there is no need to do this -- just remove the glow plug with a glow plug wrench.
After you remove the glow plug make sure to remove the copper glow plug washer that comes with the glow plug. When removing the glow plug, if the copper washer does not come out at the same time use a pair of needlenose pliers to retrieve it from the cylinder head.
If the glow plug washer is lost the glow plug will not seat properly in the cylinder head causing serious damage to the nitro engine. These are tiny, easy to lose parts so handle carefully.
It takes just a few drops of after-burn oil to lubricate your nitro engine. Put those drops down the cylinder head after you remove the glow plug.
If your nitro RC is equipped with an electric start system just give it a few quick jump starts to make sure that the oil is thoroughly lubricating the internal parts. If it isn't equipped with an electrical start system a few tugs on the manual pull start cord.
After thoroughly lubricating your nitro RC engine with the after burn oil, use a little oil the washer and place the glow plug washer on the glow plug and install the glow plug back in the cylinder head.
Don't forget to install the glow plug wire (if equipped) back on your glow plug. Using a pair of needle nose pliers.
After completing the after burn oil maintenance you can use your vehicle or clean it up and put it away for another day.
